U.S. Senate Primary (KS): My Picks—David Haley

I chose State Senator David Haley over Lisa Johnston.

Bottom line, David Haley has demonstrated himself as a man of principle in the Kansas Senate. He has stood up for his Wyandotte County community for the last 16 years in the Kansas Legislature, and he is a man that doesn’t take no for an answer. He has been the type of moderate voice Kansas Democrats have come to expect from their elected officials. From a party perspective, I think state senator David Haley stands the best possibility to raise the cash necessary to mount a credible statewide challenge to either Jerry Moran or Todd Tiahrt in the November General Election.

If I could vote for two candidates, Lisa Johnston would receive my other vote. A relative outsider to statewide Democratic politics, Lisa fits in well within our party—her commitment to education and ethical leadership are values Kansas Democrats hold near and dear. Though, her continued reminder that she has a doctorate (in education) did her no favors with the Kansas electorate and I worry that she may not be able to raise the cash necessary to run a credible campaign in the General Election. It’s my hope that Lisa Johnston remains a vocal leader in the post-Sebelius Kansas Democratic Party.
